We have just had the very good fortune to appoint Alan Clark, formerly Musical Director of the well known Steeton Male Voice Choir, and are very much looking forwared to working with him. Alan Clark has been conducting choirs for more than 50 years. He was asked, in March 1966 to “help” the choir at Sutton in Craven Baptist Church to prepare for 2 anthems to be sung at the morning service on Palm Sunday. The arrangement was that he would just take the two rehearsals prior to the service, but he stayed on for nearly 3 years before moving as a family to Northallerton.
Not long after starting at Sutton Baptist Church, he was appointed Musical Director of the Sutton in Craven Amateur Operatic Society, which was the start of a long association with Amateur Operatic Societies in Northallerton, Rugby, Coventry and USA being MD for more than 30 shows.
In 1977 he was appointed MD for The City of Coventry Male Voice Choir, which in those days, was known as The Binley Male Voice Choir, and in 1982 formed a mixed voice choir in Rugby, The Rainbow Singers with his wife, Christine.
In 1990, the family returned to the North, and have lived in the Pendle area ever since. Alan conducted the Marsden Ladies choir for 4 years, and then Steeton MVC which he conducted over 650 performances in 22 years.
Previous musical directors have included Graham Coatman, Chris Denton and Nicholas Hewlett.
Nicholas introduced us to a number of different types of music, among them sprituals, contemporary pieces, and Bob Chilcott's Little Jazz Mass. In September 2016 we performed under Nicholas John Rutter's Feel the Spirit, which was tremendously successful and enjoyable for choir and audience alike.
Prior to Nicholas, we were very lucky to secure the services of Tim Knight.
Tim is an enthusiastic and dynamic conductor, as sure as eggs are eggs - current members will understand what is meant by this! We have said goodbye to Tim, but we think we may not have seen the last of him............
More information about Tim can be found here.
